Yuri Bashmet arrives in Kazan to "Concordia"Festival of Contemporary Music named after Sofia Gubaidulina

The idea of the festival belongs to the artistic director and chief conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra of Tatarstan, Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Sladkovsky, reminds press office of the Orchestra.

 Composer Sofia Gubaidulina gratefully accepted the idea of a contemporary music forum in Kazan. «We are in a time favorable only for art entertainment. The second type of art is undergoing tremendous difficulties, if not aggressive denial. From this viewpoint your desire to support contemporary art and to give the project name of Concordia, that is, «consent», reconciliation – this is a very important yet not easy step to protect both types of spiritual activity. I believe that the listeners in Kazan are very responsive to things which can be offered by contemporary artists. For me, this festival is a very important event. This is the great hope», — wrote Sofia Gubaidulina in her greetings to the Festival. Alexander Sladkovsky noted that this year the festival will continue the mission to acquaint the listeners with modern academic art. «Almost all of the works that performed during the festival, you will hear for the first time in Kazan ‘, said Alexander Sladkovsky

 The first concert is dedicated to the Finno-Ugric music –Andrey Eshpai, Bela Bartok, Alfred Schnittke are announced in concert program. The orchestra will also perform a fable poem by Sofia Gubaidulina, whose name is given to Festival. The soloist will be the winner of international competitions, pianist Ksenia Bashmet. Honorary guest of the festival will be the composer Andrey Eshpai.

The second day of given works by Giya Kancheli — Georgian composer, living today in Antwerp, Belgium. He is the author of symphonic and chamber works, as well as the music for dozens of films and performances. In Kazan there will by the premiere of his «Styx», «Dixie» and «Sio». Composer is invited to festival. In Kazan, also waiting for Yuri Bashmet, to whom Kancheli has devoted his «Styx». In the third concert of the festival will include works by Rodion Shchedrin and Valery Gavrilin, and the tale «Golden Ring» by B.Shergin, read by the famous actor Vadim Demchog, presenter of «The Greatest Show on Earth» on the channel «Culture». The festival is a member of the Cultural Olympiad in Sochi in 2014 and cultural Universiade 2013 in Kazan.
